About me

I'm Márti Hámori – yoga teacher, yoga therapist, shiatsu practitioner.
My original profession is English–Hungarian teacher, but for a while now I've lived out teaching through yoga.
How yoga found me
I first met yoga over 20 years ago, while expecting my youngest child. I started going to prenatal yoga – not so much for an easier birth, but for the calm and the inward attention towards my baby. The baby arrived (now a beautiful young woman), and the yoga stayed.
After ten years of regular practice I felt I wanted to know more about this wonderful system – the asanas and all that lies beyond them: meditation, yoga philosophy. So I began to study, and completed several one-year teacher trainings, meditation and spine-therapy courses, and prenatal and women's yoga therapist trainings.
I trained as a shiatsu practitioner with Anna Mezősi and Ági Darin, and for two years I've worked alongside them as an assistant at the East–West Health Centre. I'm still studying – among other things, the 3-year TTP programme of the Himalayan Tradition.
I consider retreats an important part of my personal growth – I've been to yoga and silence camps several times, and in India I received teachings at the Swami Rama Ashram.
What I believe in
Yoga is part of my life – it shows not only in my regular practice, but permeates my everyday life in every way. It gives me strength, calm, faith, the ability to handle difficult situations, and helps me stay centred – which I especially need alongside three children, a household, studying, work and a caring profession.
Sport matters to me too – I often hike, do strength training and run. For a while I trained more seriously and took part in several running races, until an injury brought that period to an end. I was very disheartened at the time, but today I know the injury was also part of my path: I learned a great deal from it – not only about rehabilitation, but about listening more closely to my body's signals. Since then I can carry this experience more authentically into my work, my teaching, and the support I offer to those who come to me.
For a long time I felt I wanted a space of my own. One that's safe, that holds everything I've learned and experienced – a space we'd create together with those who practise here. That place has now become real: to give room to loving encounters, to teaching, to calm and to healing.
Giving back
Because I believe that yoga – and shiatsu – belong to everyone, I've also volunteered for years at a foundation and social organisations, so I can help bring the beneficial effects of yoga and massage to those in need.
