Shiatsu Massage

Shiatsu literally means “finger pressure” in Japanese. It's a gentle, touch-based bodywork that works along the meridians – the energy channels: releasing tension, supporting the flow of energy, and aiding the body's natural healing processes.

The treatment takes place clothed, on the floor on a mat, and often includes gentle stretching and mobilising movements. The emphasis is on prevention: we don't just treat symptoms, but look at the whole person – without medication or side effects.

What can it help with?

Shiatsu is rooted in the principles of traditional Eastern medicine. Many people turn to the treatment to ease concerns such as:

  • stress, anxiety, nervous tension
  • sleep disturbances, insomnia
  • tension headaches, migraines
  • neck, shoulder and back pain
  • muscle stiffness, musculoskeletal tension
  • chronic fatigue, exhaustion
  • mild digestive complaints
  • menstrual cramps
  • difficulty concentrating
  • general well-being and relaxation

The most commonly mentioned benefits: deeper relaxation, easing muscle tension, better blood and lymph circulation, more restful sleep, and a more balanced, energised sense of well-being.

Shiatsu does not replace medical treatment, but many find it useful as a complementary therapy. Effects may vary from person to person.
